Gene Giles (Men’s Basketball): After graduating from Baltimore’s Dunbar High School, Giles served four years in the U. S. Air Force, where he played on the Air Force Basketball Team. He made the All Air Force team. In 1958 he enrolled in Coppin and joined the basketball team. His coach, Dr. Cyril Byron said that Giles proved to be the most earnest point getter and had a respectful 26.3 point per game average. During his Coppin basketball career, 1958 to 1962 he was the leading scorer.
