Coppin’s head cross country and track & field coach for seven years, Coach Webster led the Eagles to seven MEAC Team Championships in cross country which included three-straight on the men’s side as well as four-straight on the women’s side. On the track, he coached 25 individuals to MEAC Titles in various events, including All-Americans Diana Pitts and Twana Allen, ranging from the 200m to 5,000m along with three relays and two shot put titles. Following his death in 2006, the Donald Webster Memorial Invitational was run at Coppin State every year from 2006 to 2017.
Webster is a member of the Penn Relays Wall of Fame after being named the Meet’s 1960 Most Outstanding Athlete. He qualified for the US Olympic Trials that year and again in both 1964 and 1972. He went on to run at Villanova for two years before leaving to enlist in the Army where he was a 1st Lieutenant in Vietnam. Upon discharge, he ran at Cal State before assisting at Morgan State and coming to Coppin in 1989. He later was the head coach at both South Carolina State and Bowie State.
