HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior
Christian Duchnak and junior
Gavin Lewis were able to pull out wins in singles competition over the weekend for Coppin State. The Eagles took on St. Francis, Hofstra and Fordham in New York on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9.
Coppin State drops to 1-11 overall record with three games left in the regular season. The Eagles will host Loyola University on Tuesday, April 11
th at the CSU Tennis Courts.
St. Francis 6, Coppin State 1
Senior
Christian Duchnak picked up a singles win competing at the fourth spot downing St. Francis NY 6-3, 7-5. He also teamed up with junior
Gabriel Franca at the second spot in doubles action and won 6-4.
St. Francis NY went on to win the match 6-1. The Eagles No. 1 doubles team of
Zaipo Oula and
Andres Diaz loss 6-0 and junior
Gavin Lewis and freshman
Andre Sturniolo was defeated 6-3 at the third spot.
The Eagles only singles victory came from Duchnak.
Hofstra 7, Coppin State 0
Hofstra hosted the Eagle and swept through the match 7-0. Coppin State had their best outing in single play at the third, fifth and sixth spots.
Christian Duchnak battled at No. 3 singles and fell 6-3, 6-3.
Andres Diaz was downed 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 and
Zaipo Oula dropped his match 6-1, 6-0. Hofstra breezed through doubles winning 6-2 in the first flight, 6-1 in the second and 6-0 at the third spot.
Fordham 6, Coppin State 1
Junior
Gavin Lewis came up with the lone point for Coppin State's men's tennis team in their match against Fordham on Sunday, April 9
th. At the No. 2 singles, Lewis was able to record a 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 come from behind win.
Fordham took the doubles point with wins at all three levels.
