BALTIMORE – The Coppin State men's tennis team opened its 2026 fall schedule with three matches over the weekend at the Loyola Invitational, facing the host Greyhounds, Howard and Georgetown.
Mpho Leshoele won both of his singles matches, coming against Loyola and Howard and was leading deep into the match with
Andre Dogbefu against Howard before falling in a tiebreaker.
The Eagles opened the weekend at Loyola Maryland on Sept. 11 before battling Howard on Sept. 12 and Georgetown on Sept. 13.
Loyola Maryland 6, Coppin State 1
Coppin State opened the weekend on Sept. 11 at Loyola Maryland, falling to the Greyhounds, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Loyola captured all three matches. Alejandro Rotundo and Cristian Pemueller defeated
Flavius Henderson II and
Dentry Mortimer, 6-2, at No. 1. Eddie Roark and Khai Rees earned a 6-3 victory over
Awungjia Mbelem and
Andre Dogbefu at No. 2, while Ryan Gill and Aidan Francia Cotter defeated
Mpho Leshoele and
Malcolm Moore, 6-2, at No. 3.
Leshoele provided the Eagles' lone victory of the match, earning a hard-fought straight-set victory at No. 3 singles against David Suarez, 7-5, 6-4.
At No. 1 singles, Petter Hagen defeated
Dogbefu, 6-1, 6-3.
Henderson battled Blake Edwards before falling, 6-4, 6-4, while
Mortimer took Cyrus Shivkumar to three sets before dropping the match, 6-1, 2-6, (10-4).
Pemueller defeated
Moore, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 singles, while Francia Cotter defeated
Mbelem, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
Coppin State vs. Howard
The Eagles returned to action on Sept. 12 against Howard, with
Leshoele again earning a singles victory.
Coppin State's No. 2 doubles team of
Leshoele and Dogbefu battled Major and Alfred to a tiebreak before falling, 7-6 (4). At No. 1 doubles,
Mortimer and Henderson dropped a 6-2 decision to Lash and Weekes, while
Mbelem and Moore fell to Yon and Bermeo, 6-3.
Leshoele earned the Eagles' victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Lash in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Dogbefu battled Major at No. 1 singles before falling, 6-3, 7-5. Henderson dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Alfred, while Mortimer fell to Bermeo, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles,
Moore battled Hines in a competitive match, falling 6-3, 7-5.
Coppin State vs. Georgetown
The Hoyas captured the first two completed doubles matches, with Waleed Qadir and Jackson Mountford defeating
Mortimer and Henderson, 6-3, at No. 1. Jonah Hill and Dean Rostom defeated
Mbelem and Dogbefu, 6-2, at No. 2.
In singles action, Georgetown earned victories in the three completed matches. Hill defeated
Dogbefu, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Mountford defeated
Henderson, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2.
At No. 3 singles, Rostom defeated
Mortimer, 6-3, 6-2.
