BALTIMORE – Coppin State's
Gabriel Franca and
Gavin Lewis won in doubles action, but Howard University took the rest of the flights defeating the Eagles 6-1, on Tuesday, March 22
nd.
In doubles play, the Eagles registered a victory at No. 2 (6-4) behind the duo of
Gabriel Franca and
Gavin Lewis. The pair picked up the only points for the blue and gold in their MEAC home opener against the Bison.
Howard won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles action 6-0 and 6-1, respectively. CSU's
Andres Diaz and
Christian Duchnak competed in the top flight while
Ross Olexa and
Zaipo Oula battled at the No. 3 spot.
Both teams played well in singles competition but the Bison came away with the rest of the points.
Andres Diaz suffered a tough loss at the third flight after winning the second set 6-1. Howard's Spencer Kelly won the first set 6-1 and then rallied from behind to a 10-7 victory over Diaz. Coppin State dropped their fourth match of the year, 6-1 to Howard.
Coppin State tennis teams return to the courts on Friday, March 25
th in a road MEAC contest against Norfolk State University at 3 p.m.
