ANNAPOLIS – The 2016 men's tennis team at Coppin State University opened their season on the road against Navy on Saturday, February 27
th at the Tose Family TC. The Eagles were shutout 7-0.
Freshmen
Ross Olexa and
Zaipo Oula teamed up in No. 3 doubles action and were downed 6-1. The No.1 doubles team of freshmen
Andres Diaz and junior
Christian Duchnak lost 6-1 while sophomores
Gabriel Franca and
Gavin Lewis battled at No. 2 suffering a 6-2 defeat.
In singles competition
Andres Diaz had the strongest outing against Navy. He went down 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Gavin Lewis fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 while
Christian Duchnak (No. 1),
Gabriel Franca (No. 3),
Zaipo Oula (No. 5), and
Ross Olexa (No. 6) all were blanked 6-0.
The Eagles are 0-1 overall and Navy improves to an 8-6 record this season. Coppin State returns to action on Saturday, March 5
th against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville back in Annapolis, MD at a neutral site hosted by Navy.
