Drakes Leads Men’s Track to Several Historic Performances at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Several historic marks were run by Coppin State's men's track & field team at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University this weekend. Additionally, several Eagles also competed at the Towson Invitational as well.
 
Carl Drakes doubled up in both the 100m and 200m dash, taking fifth overall in the 100m (10.49) and third in the 200m (20.73) to lead the Eagles. He also led the 4x100m (39.82) and 4x400m (3:07.32) relays to second place finishes.
 
Drakes moved up to third in CSU history in the 200m dash and currently leads the MEAC with his time.  He also ranks third in the conference in the 100m dash.
 
He led off the 4x100 and was followed by Solomon Hammond, Noxroy Wright and Chris Adekoya with a time that currently leads the MEAC and is the fifth-fastest in school history. The 4x400m Relay of Jarrett Gentles, Drakes, Daniel Cunningham and Jayeed Norbal clocked the second-fastest time in CSU history and currently rank third in the MEAC.
 
Hammond, Wright and Cole Schlotterbeck, like Drakes, also doubled up in the 100m and 200 dash events.  Hammond clocked times of 10.56 and 21.03, respectively, with Wright besting Schlotterbeck in the 100m – 10.85 to 10.99.  Schlotterbeck got the better hand in the 200m – 21.66 to 21.70. 
 
Adekoya also covered the 100m dash in 10.63.  Hammond and Adekoya also ran the opening and anchor legs of the 4x400m 'B' relay that finished in 3:19.68 along with Etiam Torgbenu and Andrew Betton.
 
In the 400m hurdles, Gentles clocked a personal record of 51.85 to finish sixth overall, moving him to sixth all-time in CSU history and fourth in the MEAC this season.
 
A trio of Eagles ran in the 800m Run with Asa Francis leading the way in a MEAC-leading time of 1:51.19.  Norbal finished just behind in 1:52.89, followed by Torgbenu in 1:55.26, and they rank third and sixth in the conference, respectively, in the event.
 
Cunningham also competed in the 400m dash and finished in 47.66 while Betton cleared 1.95m (6' 4.75") in the high jump.
 
At the Towson Invitational, Humed Nura ran an impressive double in the 800m (2:00.81) and 1,500m (4:08.48), both of which are personal records. 
 
Fiyin Amori and Alexander Dobson-Honablue also doubled in the 200m and 400m dash.  Dobson-Honablue edged Amori out in the 200m - 22.97 to 23.22, while Amori got the better hand in the 400m – 50.33 to 50.57.
 
Jaidyn Brown also cleared 1.80m (5' 10.75") in the high jump.
 
Coppin is scheduled to compete at Towson's Twilight Senior Meet on Friday, April 4 at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
