Elijah Williams takes 3rd at MEAC Indoor Championships in 60m Hurdles

Men’s Track Wins Team Title at Morgan State Legacy Behind Victories in Four Events

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's Solomon Hammond, Elijah Williams and Sean Williams won their respective events while the 4x100m Relay was also victorious for the Coppin State men's track & field team at the Morgan State Legacy over the weekend.  The Eagles totaled 111 total points over the two days to win the team title, edging out the host Bears (105) and Delaware State (104).
 
Hammond clocked a season-best time of 10.13 in the 100m dash to win the title, just ahead of Cole Schlotterbeck who took second in 10.34, which was a personal best.  A senior from Ghana, Hammond also ran a season-best time in the 200m dash, taking second in 20.87. Opening the second day of competition, Hammond and Schlotterbeck ran the first two legs of the 4x100m that took gold in 40.28. Hammond now ranks first in the MEAC and 20th nationally in the 100m dash while sitting second in the 200m within the conference.
 
Elijah Williams continued to improve his time in the 110m hurdles and clock a PR of 14.16 to win the event. A freshman from Smyrna, Del., Williams ranks third in the MEAC in the event.
 
Sean Williams cleared 2.05m (6'8.75") in the high jump to win the event.
 
Also medaling on the day were Etiam Torgbenu and Asa Francis in the 800m, taking second and third overall in times of 1:51.25 and 1:51.36, respectively. Francis also anchored the 4x400m Relay to a second-place time of 3:12.01, running with Damien Howard, Godspower Iloba and Philip GrayAlexander Dobson-Honablue took third in the javelin with a toss of 48.06m (157' 8").
 
Also, in the sprints, Chris Adekoya clocked a 10.48 in the finals on the 100m dash while Timothy Frederick finished seventh with a preliminary time of 10.49. Frederick doubled up in the 200m dash and finished fourth in 21.17, ahead of Schlotterbeck in 21.67.
 
Howard, Iloba and Gray also ran impressive times in the 400m dash, placing fourth through sixth in times of 47.86, 47.98 and 48.09. 
 
Elijah Hicks (1:56.10), Humed Nura (1:56.54) and Rashawn Harris (1:59.96) also performed well in the 800m with Nura shattering his personal best in the event. Hicks, Harris and Nura combined with Dobson-Honablue to run a 4x400m Relay in 3:27.27.
 
Dobson-Honablue took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.63m (48' 0") while teammate Keyon Jackson covered 13.49m (44' 3.25").  Mandel Edelin competed in the long jump and leaped 6.27m (20' 7").
