Tennis Partners with Baltimore City Public Schools to Launch Tennis & Financial Literacy Initiative

| By:
BALTIMORE – Coppin State University's tennis program is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools to introduce middle school students to the sport of tennis while equipping them with essential financial literacy skills.

As part of the SY24-25 Middle School Athletics Vendor/Partner Program, CSU Tennis will host two one day clinics — on April 1, 2025, and May 1, 2025 — at the university's newly renovated tennis courts and Physical Education Complex. Each clinic will engage 50 middle school students in a dynamic mix of on-court tennis instruction and an interactive financial literacy workshop led by Tradechology Jr.

Empowering Students On and Off the Court

This initiative is designed to provide underserved youth in West Baltimore with access to high-quality sports programming while fostering critical life skills. Students who attend both clinics will have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a four-week after-school program, featuring tennis training twice a week and financial literacy sessions at no or low cost.

Building a Pipeline for Growth

CSU Tennis is committed to using sports as a catalyst for positive change, helping students develop confidence, discipline, and long-term aspirations. Through this initiative, students will not only engage in physical activity and mentorship but also gain exposure to a collegiate environment, inspiring them to pursue higher education.

"We believe that tennis can be a powerful tool for shaping young lives," said Ebonye Jones, Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Coppin State University. "By pairing the sport with financial literacy education, we are preparing students for success—both on the court and in life."

Community Impact & Logistics
  • Tennis Instruction: CSU student-athletes and coaching staff will lead on-court activities.
  • Financial Literacy Workshops: Hosted by Tradechology Jr., focusing on real-world financial skills.
  • Support & Resources: Participants will receive branded T-shirts, snacks, and equipment provided by BCPS.
  • Transportation: BCPS will provide transportation for participating students.

A Commitment to Baltimore's Youth

The CSU Tennis Program is dedicated to expanding opportunities for local students by making tennis and financial education accessible. By fostering relationships between young athletes and CSU student ambassadors, the program aims to build a lasting impact within the Baltimore community.
