COLUMBIA, S.C. – Solomon Hammond and
Jayeed Norbal won their open events to lead the Coppin State men's track & field team at South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational over the weekend to open the outdoor season. They both rank first in the MEAC in their respective events with Hammond ranking 18
th nationally in the 100m dash.
Hammond took the 100m dash in an impressive 10.34 with Norbal earning the gold in the 800m Run in 1:53.94. Norbal also helped the 4x400m Relay with
Etiam Torgbenu,
Asa Francis and
Alexander Dobson-Honablue take second overall in 3:14.29.
Torgbenu also took fourth to Norbal in the 800m in 1:55.93 with Francis covering the 1,500m in 4:07.31. Dobson Honablue also competed in the javelin with a throw of 37.83m (124' 1.0").
Hammond also ran both the 4x100m Relay that took second in 40.53 with
Carl Drakes,
Noxroy Wright and
Cole Schlotterbeck, and on the 'B' relay of the 4x400 with Wright, Schlotterbeck and Amori to a time of 3:26.91. Wright doubled up in the 100m (10.63) and 200m (21.77).
In the 400m dash, Drakes took third overall, and first among collegiate runners in 47.49, edging out teammate
Daniel Cunningham in 47.99. Schlotterbeck also clocked a 51.10.
Elsewhere,
Chris Adekoya finished the 100m dash in 10.81 while
Humed Nura doubled in the 1,500 (4:11.00) and 5,000m (16:37.32) where he took ninth overall. Amori also leaped 13.43m (44' 00.75") in the triple jump.
