Hammond & Adekoya Run in the 100m Dash

Men’s Track & Field Finishes Seventh at MEAC Outdoor Championships

NORFOLK, Va. – Behind second-place performances by Solomon Hammond and both the 4x100m and 4x400m Relays, the Coppin State men's track & field team took seventh at the MEAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Norfolk State over the weekend.  The Eagles scored 63 total points and also got a bronze medal from Damien Howard.
 
Hammond finished second in the 100m dash in 10.18, getting edged out in a photo finish, while leading the 4x100m Relay to a second-place time of 40.24.  He was joined on the relay by Godspower Iloba, Chris Adekoya and Cole Schlotterbeck who picked up points in their various events.
 
Hammond clocked a 21.32 in the prelims of the 200m while Schlotterbeck advanced to the finals with a 21.28 before taking seventh in 21.65. Adekoya placed eighth in the 100m dash in 10.68 after a preliminary time of 10.48 while Schlotterbeck finished in 10.62.
 
Howard placed third in the 400m dash in 47.40 with Iloba finishing in 49.00, good for eighth overall.  Both ran faster in the prelims with Howard crossing the finish in 47.26, just ahead of Iloba in 47.37.  Timothy Frederick and Philip Gray covered the lap in 47.73 and 48.23, respectively.  Frederick also ran the 200m dash in 21.67.
 
Wrapping up the weekend, Howard, Frederick, Gray and Asa Francis competed in the 4x400m Relay and finished second in a season-best time of 3:09.91.  This time is good for ninth in CSU history.
 
Francis also placed fifth in the 800m Run in 1:52.77, just behind teammate Etiam Torgbenu who placed fourth in 1:52.38.  Rashawn Harris and Elijah Hicks ran preliminary times of 2:02.50 and 2:03.55, respectively.
 
Freshmen Elijah Williams and Sean Williams picked up fourth place points in the long jump and high jump.  Elijah Williams leaped a season-best 7.32m (24-0.25") in the long jump while Sean Williams cleared 2.03m (6-7.75) in the high jump. Elijah Williams also took sixth in the high jump at 2.00m (6-6.75) and 7th in the 110m hurdles in 15.07 after clocking a 14.23 in the prelims.
 
Alexander Dobson-Honablue scored in a pair of events, finishing sixth in the javelin with a toss of 48.81m (160-2) and eighth in the triple jump, covering 14.52m (47-7.75).  Humed Nura also picked up a point in the 1,500m Run with a time of 4:02.10.
 
Also, competing in the jumps, Mandel Edelin traveled 6.42m (21-0.75) in the long jump and 12.69m (41-7.75) in the triple jump.  Sean Williams leaped 6.29m (20-7.75) in the long jump and Keyon Jackson went 13.61m (44-8) in the triple jump.
