LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coppin State's
Solomon Hammond finished 33
rd out of 48 runners at the NCAA East Preliminaries First Round of the 100m dash on Wednesday night at the UK Track & Field Complex. Hammond finished sixth in his heat in 10.34 ahead of Troy's Michael Eady and Christopher Basking of Norfolk State.
A senior from Accra, Ghana, Hammond failed to qualify for Friday's quarterfinals, missing the final qualifying spot by .05. Hammond finished his senior year with a season-best time of 10.13 while his personal-best time of 10.07 is the third-fastest mark in CSU history behind fellow Ghanaian
Joseph Amoah.
Hammond was making his third appearance at the NCAA East Preliminaries, also competing in the 100m dash in both 2024 and 2025, as well as the 4x100m Relay in 2024. He is a six-time MEAC Champion, winning the 60m dash in both 2025 and 2026, a pair of 4x100m Relays in 2024 and 2025, the 100m dash in 2025 and 200m dash in 2024.
