CARY, N.C. – Highlighted by a win by
Brandy Babcock-Hannah, Coppin State's men's & women's tennis teams competed at the inaugural MEAC Individual Championships over the weekend at Cary Tennis Park.
A freshman from Menifee, Calif., Babcock-Hannah was victorious in her first match of the tournament, taking down Delaware State's Lucia Casas Blas, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. She fell later in the day to Hidalgo Vega of NC Central, 6-1, 6-4.
Babcock-Hannah teamed with fellow freshman
Sky Carter in doubles play where they fell to the Pegram/Jean pairing from Howard, 6-2, 6-0.
Graduate student
Megan Etienne fell to Pegram in singles play, 6-2, 6-0. She also paired with freshman
Kyla Proctor in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Golembiovski/Mitolo of Delaware State.
On the men's side,
Harsh Kheterpal took the second set in his opening match against NC Central's Rodrigo Alves, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. Him and
Tinashe Whata took Morgan State's Brown/Karenzi to the limit before falling, 7-5, 7-6 in doubles action.
Freshman
Daniel Wachira made his collegiate debut in a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Howard's Michael Major. He paired with
Rishi Jalota in a 6-1, 6-0 loss on Saturday to Hakim/Saarinen of NC Central.
