Men's Tennis Indoor Season Debut Against St. Josephs

Philadelphia, PA: Coppin State men's tennis team made their season debut against Saint Joseph's at Legacy Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday night.  The Eagles won multiple games collectively despite a 7-0 match loss to the Hawks.  

Doubles 

Liam Murtaugh and Rick Neike made their Coppin indoor season debut at number two doubles, as they indulged a tiebreaker against Justus Agbo and John Butler.  The Eagles duo ended up losing the tiebreaker and dropped the match 7-6.  

Vansh Kapoor and Harsh Kheterpal matched up against Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Rug at first doubles where they went to win three games in a 6-3 loss of the set.  

Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov and Kwaku Agyeman won four games at third doubles for a 6-4 match loss against Stergios Achilleas Papadopoulos and Mark Rubin. 

Singles 

Murtaugh won the first set 6-4 at fourth singles to extend a three-set match against Papadopoulos.  

At number one singles, Kapoor won a total of five games in a two set loss against Ruy (6-1, 6-4)  

Abdurakhmonov matched up against Campbell at fifth singles.  After dropping the first set 6-2, he brought out a seven game match in set two where he won five games.  (7-5).  

Kheterpal and Agyeman won five games a piece at number three and number six singles, while Neike matched up against Bezzaz at number two singles.  


"Overall the team brought great energy. We have unity as a team and we are showinf up for eachother. This first match was a good parameter of where we are. There are things that we need to work on, especially with a fairly new team with the majority having their first match at the division one levelm but I am looking forward to what the rest of the season will bring" stated Kapoor.  


Up Next: The Eagles will make a quick turnaround to match up against College of Charleston on Friday, February 2nd in Clifton Maryland.
