NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Sergiu Medesan has been named to the MEAC Men's Tennis First Team, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first time that Medesan has earned All-MEAC honors, and he is the second Eagles men's tennis player to earn All-Conference honors under head coach
Ebonye Jones.
A junior from Constanta, Romania, Medesan recorded a MEAC-best 7-1 record in singles play, winning an impressive 87.5% of his singles matches. Most of those victories came in the second singles slot where he went 5-1 with wins over Saint Joseph's, Villanova, George Mason, Salem (WV) and TCNJ. Medesan also defeated the top singles player from Lafayette and took down Howard's third position player in the season finale.
The lone loss in singles play by Medesan came on April 3 against Norfolk State (7-5, 6-4) after winning six-straight individual matches to open the season.
In doubles competition, Medesan was paired with freshman
Vansh Kapoor the entire the season and the duo accumulated a 3-5 record with victories over Lafayette, George Mason, and Norfolk State.
