Men’s & Women’s Tennis Sweep MEAC Weekly Honors for Second-Straight Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's tennis teams swept all four MEAC weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon as Sergiu Medesan and Afruica Gentle were named as the Men's & Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.  Vansh Kapoor earned Men's Rookie of the Week honors while Gentle also received Rookie of the Week honors on the women's side.
 
This is the second-straight week that the Eagles have swept the MEAC weekly tennis honors.
 
A junior from Romania, Medesan was key in the Eagles' 4-3 victory at Lafayette on Saturday, defeating William Barry, 6-3 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1 singles, while also pairing with Kapoor for a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Barry and John Yurconic.
 
Gentle paired with Shariah Dunwell for a 6-1 doubles victory over Lafayette's Maureen McCormack and Melanie Sparhawk.  A native of Guyana, Gentle also hung tough in her No. 3 singles matching, falling in three sets to Jessica Siegel with a 7-5 win in the second set.
 
On top of his No. 1 doubles victory alongside Medesan, Kapoor, a freshman from New Delhi, India, defeated Lafayette's Daniel Kramer, 6-1, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 4 singles.
 
The Eagles men's tennis team is in action on March 16 when it hosts Loyola, while the women's team travels to George Washington on February 26 and Delaware State on February 28.
