LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Coppin State's men's tennis team took four singles matches to defeat Rider, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon for its first victory of the season.
The Eagles earned the doubles point with an impressive 6-3 win by
Jorge Rodriguez Rey and
Gavin Lewis in the first position.
Gabriel Franca and
Andres Diaz dropped their match at No. 2 by an identical score but
Igor Zapparoli de Souza and
Zaipo Oula won the match by default.
Rodriguez Rey bounced back from his last match with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Diaz won a deciding third set, 6-2 to earn a victory at three while De Souza blanked his opponent in the second set of a victory at five. Oula also earned a victory by a default at No. 6 while Lewis dropped his match in three sets.
The Eagles are back in action when they host MEAC rival Howard on Wednesday, April 4 at 1 pm.
