BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State women's tennis team won the doubles portion of the match and then squeezed out victories at the third and fifth spots in singles play against Delaware State winning 4-3 at the CSU Tennis Courts on Friday, April 7
th.
The Eagles improve to 2-7 record and a 2-2 MEAC record after their win against the Hornets.
Coppin State opened the match capturing the doubles point and taking a 1-0 lead behind
Tinashe Gwaze and
Precious Udofe's win at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, against Elvia Galeva and Sofia Rachi.
Brittanie Cahua and
Carentxa Goede battled at No. 2 and downed DSU's duo of Asyushi Choaw and Milan Graves, 6-3.
In singles, the Eagles capped their second conference victory of the season with strong play from both Cahua and Gwaze.
Brittanie Cahua won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at the third spot over Sofia Rachi picking up her third singles win. She also won her second straight doubles match teaming up with
Carentxa Goede. Gwaze clinched the match at No. 5 over Leza Bessonova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Next up. Coppin State travels to New York for three games over the weekend beginning with a Saturday, April 8
th match at Hofstra in Hempstead, NY at noon. The Eagles will also face St. Francis Brooklyn and Fordham on Sunday.
