CARY, N.C. – Despite a victory by
Brandy Babcock-Hannah and
Saphirre Ferguson in the top doubles flight, Coppin State's tennis team fell to #2 Norfolk State, 4-0, in the MEAC Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at Cary Tennis Park. The Eagles finished their season at 0-14 overall while the Spartans improved to 15-9 on the year.
Babcock-Hannah and Ferguson dominated Norfolk State's top duo, 6-1, and was the first match to finish, but the Spartans earned the doubles point by winning, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles over
Abigail Perue and
Kyla Proctor, and bested
Alison Azarak and
Sirena Singh, 6-2 in the third spot.
A sophomore from Menifee, Calif., Babcock-Hannah won the first set, 6-3, and was tied at two in the second at No. 2 singles but went unfinished as Norfolk won three singles positions to clinch the match. Singh won a pair of games in each set at No. 1 singles while NSU picked up wins in the third and sixth spots. Ferguson dropped the first set, 6-1, but was tied, 4-4 in the second set at the finish.
