NEWARK, Del. – Coppin State University's women's track and field team placed fourth with 43 team points at the Delaware Open on Saturday, April 8
th.
The Eagles won the women's high jump event with sophomore
Khemani Roberts' season-best mark of 1.70 meters. Roberts currently ranks third in the MEAC with her effort. She was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.98 seconds. Junior
Breana Hagwood followed with a seventh place finish in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.02 seconds.
Senior
Kiersten Bond was the runner-up in the women's long jump with a season-best measure of 5.48 meters. Her mark ranks sixth in the conference. Bond also had a strong outing in the women's 100 meter dash placing fourth at 12.40 (w) seconds. Sophomore
Chontel Fils was fourth in the same event with a season-best mark of 5.31 meters. Roberts was eighth at 5.17 meters.
Freshman
Tatiana Ogundeko was ninth in the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 5:11.48 and freshman
Aidan Alston led the throwers with a fifth place finish in the javelin. Alston had a season-best mark of 35.09 meters which is the sixth best mark in the conference.
Junior
Kristen Deacon was fifth in the discus with a season-best mark of 40.69 meters ranking fourth in the conference. In the shot put, Deacon was ninth (11.47m) but freshman
Ariyana Larkins had a season-high measure of 12.2 meters in the event placing sixth overall.
Wrapping up the Eagles competition at the Delaware Open was a third place finish by the women's 4x100 meter relay team of
Eriell Wallace,
Kiersten Bond,
Breana Hagwood and
Alexis Marsh (49.78).
The Eagles have three more weekends before the 2017 MEAC Outdoor Championships in Greensboro, NC. Their next meet will be at the Hopkins Invitational on Friday, April 14
th and then the Towson Invitational on Saturday, April 15
th.
