RICHMOND, Va. – Gifty Oku took second in the 400m dash and helped the 4x400m Relay to a second-place finish as Coppin State's women's track & field team opened the outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond at Robins Stadium on Friday.
Oku clocked a 57.08 to finish second in the 400m dash and led off the 4x400m Relay to a time of 3:57.77. Following Oku was
Kyah La Fortune, Danielle Wooten and
Chase Cineas. La Fortune also ran the 400m dash and finished in 59.82
A trio of Eagles competed in the 100m hurdles and
Ariell Thomas led the way with a fifth-place finish in 15.32.
Karima Davenport-White followed in 15.64 along with
Paula Orusede. Davenport-White got the better of Thomas in the 200m dash in times of 26.52 and 26.89.
Dream Wilson also competed in the 100m dash.
In the field events,
Raniya Perry tossed the discus 27.78m (91-1), followed by
Blair Griffith in 24.78m (81-3).
Zeana Bain leaped 5.30m (17-4.75) in the long jump while
Indya Norman traveled 5.17m (16-11.5).
Coppin will compete at the Raleigh Relays on March 26-28 on the campus of North Carolina State at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
