BALTIMORE, Md. – The Coppin State women's tennis team won their first game of the 2017 season on Tuesday, March 28
th as the Eagles breezed past Maryland Eastern Shore, 6-1 at the Twins Lakes Tennis Center in their MEAC opener.
Coppin State (1-2, 1-0) took the doubles point in the first and second flights before winning five out of six singles points.
Tinashe Gwaze and
Precious Udofe started the match with a 6-1 victory of Melequa King and DaTonya Price on the first doubles court.
Ajla Hrnjic and Brittani Cahua then clinched the opening point with a 6-4 win over Alese Brown and Michal Kittrell at No. 2.
Brittani Cahua opened singles with an undefeated 6-0, 6-0 win on the third court.
Tanna Nita (No. 5) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory and
Tinashe Gwaze (No. 1) followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win in her competition.
Udofe (No. 2) and Hrnjic (No. 4) won straight sets with Hrnjic match extended to a third set where she won 7-3.
Coppin State will play four games in four days beginning with a road trip to Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, March 30
th in Emmitsburg, MD at 3 p.m.
