COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The women's track and field team at Coppin State University opened their 2017 outdoor season at the Maryland Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland on Saturday, March 18
th. The Eagles placed second overall out of ten teams with 108 points.
Coppin State recorded 20 top-10 finishes highlighted by victories in the women's high jump and long jump events.
Sophomore
Khemani Roberts won the women's high jump at 1.68 meters while junior
Savannah Forte was the runner-up at 1.48 meters. Roberts leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in the high jump and ranks 16
th nationally in the event.
Senior
Kiersten Bond led five top-10 rankings in the women's long jump event winning at 5.47 meters. Her mark leads the conference rankings in the long jump event. Sophomore
Chontel Fils (5.05m) took second and
Khemani Roberts (5.04m) placed third. Freshman Angelic Powell (4.83m) was sixth and freshman
Tre'J Johnson (4.72m) was seventh.
Bond was the runner-up in the women's 100 meter dash with a time of 12.80 seconds.
Senior
Alexis Marsh was second in the women's 400 meter at 58.83 and freshman
Eriell Wallace placed sixth (1:00.63). Marsh is currently ranked ninth in the conference in the event.
Junior
Breana Hagwood was seventh in the women's 100 meter hurdles (16.13) and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.04). Freshman
Cionne Gourrier (5:20.43) and sophomore
Lunnise Gibson (5:25.47) ran the sixth and ninth fastest times in the conference in the women's 1500 meter run.
Junior
Kristen Deacon had three strong outings in the throwing events. Deacon placed third in the women's discus (39.05m), fourth in the shot put (12.12m) and fourth in the hammer (45.31m). Amongst the MEAC, Deacon is third in the hammer event, fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Freshman Ariyanna Larkin also competed in the throwing events with solid marks. Larkins was seventh in the shot put (11.44m) and eighth in the discus (28.51m).

Lunnise Gibson and freshman
Aidan Alston placed seventh with a time of (4:38.48).
