GREESNBORO - Coppin State took gold in a pair of events on the women's side in the heptathlon and hammer throw events on the second day of the 2016 MEAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 6
th.
Heading into the final day of the MEAC Outdoor Championship the Lady Eagles are in second place with 51 points, trailing leader Florida A&M (89) but just ahead of third place Hampton (46).
Freshman
Khemani Roberts won the heptathlon with 4,539 points. On Friday she was third in the javelin throw (29.54m), fifth in the long jump (548), and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:34.60).
Also competing in the heptathlon and placing sixth overall with 3,920 points was sophomore
Randi Bohler. Bohler won the women's heptathlon long jump event at 5.42 meters. She was seventh in the javelin throw (18.50m) and 12
th in the 800 meters (3:08.37) events.
Coppin State's second champion of the day was sophomore
Kristen Deacon. Deacon won the women's hammer throw competition with a mark of 47.47 meters from the circle. She is the first ever MEAC women's hammer throw champion.
In the women's shot put finals, Coppin State tallied four point with sixth and eighth place finishes. Senior
Alethia Edwards (13.01m) placed sixth just ahead of
Kristen Deacon's (12.69m) eighth place ranking.
Completing the field events was junior
Kiersten Bond placing fourth in the women's long jump finals. Bond set a personal record at 5.67 meters at the MEAC Outdoor Championship.
The competition concludes Saturday, with events scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with field events including: men's and women's pole vault, javelin, and triple jump. The women's and men's 4x100m relays will begin the running finals at 1 p.m. Rounding out the evening's events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay race at 4:35 p.m.
