Lady Eagles Win Heptathlon & Hammer Events at Morgan State Legacy Track & Field Meet

BALTIMORE – Six Lady Eagles set personal best marks at the 2016 Morgan State Legacy Track & Field Meet on Friday and Saturday, April 22-23. Coppin State finished sixth overall with 67 team points and won the women's heptathlon and hammer throw events.

Freshman multi Khemani Roberts placed first with 4,681 points competing in the women's heptathlon. She won the heptathlon's 200 meter dash (25.09) and high jump (1.77m) while placing second in the 800 meter dash (2:32.55) and shot put (9.91m) events. Roberts mark in the women's high jump of 1.77 meters currently ranks second on the MEAC outdoor list, it is also a CSU season-high in the event and a personal best record. In addition, she set a new personal best time in the 800 meter run.

Sophomore thrower Kristen Deacon won the women's hammer throw competition, placed second in the discus, and third in the shot put. Deacon set personal best records in both the shot put and hammer events with throws of 13.32 meters and 47.88 meters, respectively. Her measure in the shot put event ranks her ninth in the MEAC.

Rounding out the throwing events were junior Ellena Torres and senior Alethia Edwards. Torres recorded a personal best mark in the hammer throw at 37.06 meters placing 13th but improved placing fifth in the javelin at 33.20 meters. Her measure in the javelin ranks 11th amongst the MEAC. Edwards placed eighth in the shot put event with a throw of 12.48 meters ranking 12th on the MEAC outdoor list.

Sophomore multi Randi Bohler notched a personal best in the triple jump event leaping 11.90 meters placing third overall. Her mark ranks 11th in the MEAC and is a CSU season-high. Senior Deandra Daniel placed third in the high jump event with a measure of 1.73 meters.

Highlighting the running events was sophomore hurdler Breana Hagwood. Hagwood had a pair of personal best performances competing in the 100 meter hurdle and 400 meter hurdle competitions. She placed 11th with a time of 14.62 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles ranking 13th on the MEAC list. In the 400 meter hurdles she was 18th at 1:07.69.

Freshman Lunnise Gibson had a strong showing at the Morgan State meet with a personal best record in the women's 1500 meter run. Gibson finished 29th overall.

Coppin State will gear up for the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA beginning on Thursday, April 28th.
