PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State placed fourth with 68 team points in the 2016-17 indoor track and field season opener at the Maryland Eastern Shore Collegiate Lid Lifter Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Eagles recorded five second place finishes with a total of 16 placing in the top-10.
The women's distance medley relay team of freshman
Tatiana Ogundeko, senior
Alexis Marsh, freshman
Cionne Gourrier and sophomore
Lunnise Gibson placed second with a time of 13:36.36. The Eagles 'A" 4x400 meter relay team of Marsh, freshman
Erika Hightower, freshman Erielle Wallace and Ogundeko were fifth with a time of 4:06.42.
In the individual events,
Eriell Wallace won her section in the women's 500 meter event placing third overall with a time of 1:19.55. In the distance events,
Lunnise Gibson (11:48.66) and
Cionne Gourrier (11:49.64) finished third and fourth in the women's 3,000 meter run.
Moving on to the field events Coppin State had a pair finish second overall with a total of seven top-10 finishes. Sophomores
Chontel Fils and
Khemani Roberts both placed in the top-four of the women's long jump event. Fils won her flight and placed second overall at 5.64 meters while Roberts placed fourth at 6.46 meters. Junior
Savannah Forte placed third in the women's triple jump reaching 10.59 meters.
Freshman
Alanna Newby placed second in the women's shot put at 11.85 meters leading a trio of Eagle throwers. Junior
Kristen Deacon placed sixth (9.81 meters) while freshman
Ariyana Larkins was seventh (9.73 meters). Deacon wrapped up the Eagles indoor season opener with a second place finish in the women's weight throw with a measure of 15.11 meters.
Coppin State competes at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Sunday, December 4
th for their next meet.
