Eagles Host North Carolina A&T Wednesday

BALTIMORE –The Eagles return home on Wednesday to host North Carolina A&T (5-16, 2-5). Game time is 7:30 p.m. (ET). Last week, Coppin State (4-14, 2-3) won two games on the road, earning a 70-66 victory at Florida A&M on Monday before winning at Bethune Cookman 62-54 last Saturday. The Eagles will host North Carolina A&T this Wednesday and Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, January 30th.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • Coppin State won their last two games on the road against Bethune Cookman (62-54) and Florida A&M (70-66) improving to 2-3 in MEAC play and 4-14 overall. Four players scored in double figures at Florida A&M led by junior guard Trevon Seymore's 15 points with 8 assists.
  • Two Coppin State starters are averaging over 10.0 points per game, with junior guard Christian Kessee scoring a team high 12.1 points per game. Kessee has scored in double figures in the last four games and scored a season-high 19 points at Iowa State
  • Junior forward Terry Harris, Jr. is averaging 11.7 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Harris netted 14 points against Florida A&M and grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds at Bethune Cookman. Harris currently leads the MEAC in double-doubles with five through his first six games of the season.
  • Junior guard Keith Shivers has stepped up his play during MEAC competition with three consecutive games scoring in double figures. Shivers scored 14 points at Howard, 10 at Bethune Cookman, and 12 at Florida A&M. At Bethune Cookman he grabbed a season-high nine rebounds. 
  • The Eagles rank first amongst the MEAC in offensive rebounds (258), third in turnover margin (+1.39), and fifth in scoring offense (70.6).
  • Coppin State has made a 3-PT FG in 177 consecutive games, the longest streak in the NCAA. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Coppin State forced FAMU into 14 turnovers and won the battle of the boards, 48-38 in the Eagles second consecutive MEAC game with a 70-66 victory over Florida A&M. The Eagles last won back-to-back MEAC road game in 2011-12.
  • Junior Trevon Seymore led the Eagles with 15 points, eight assists, four rebounds and 2 steals in 31 minutes. His eight assists ties a career high. He knocked down two 3-point baskets midway through the second half to keep the Rattlers comeback effort at bay.
  • Christian Kessee also tallied 14 points, with four rebounds, two steals and one assists. Kessee went perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. He converted four free throws in the final 13 seconds to help secure the win for Coppin State.
  • Keith Shivers added 12 points, four rebounds and two steals in a game high 39 minutes. Shivers shot 6-of-11 from the field. Shivers rocked the rim on a perfect alley-oop pass from Seymore at the beginning of the second half the silenced a ruckus Al Lawson Center.
  • Blake Simpson snatched a career best 13 rebounds for the Eagles. He added three points, two assists, three blocks and two steals.
 
ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA A&T
North Carolina A&T has gone 1-9 in their last ten games. Their last victory came against Grambling (61-47) back on Dec. 17, 2015. The Aggies are coming off of a 57-55 loss to Delaware State in their previous game dropping to 2-4 in the conference play. North Carolina A&T enters the contest ranked 11th in the MEAC and has two averaging double figure scoring. Sam Hunt leads the Aggies with 15.8 ppg while Bruce Beckford is averaging 13.8 ppg with 7.1 rpg. Hunt leads the MEAC in free throw percentage (89.5) and ranks 8th in overall scoring. Beckford follows with a 10th place ranking in scoring amongst the MEAC and is 6th in rebounding.  
 
WHAT'S COMING UP
Coppin State ends the month of January with a home game against Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, January 30th at 4:00 p.m. The Eagles game against North Carolina Central was rescheduled to February 18th due to winter storm Jonas. After their battle against the Hornets the Eagles go on the road for three consecutive games against Morgan State, South Carolina State, and Savannah State.

COPPIN AT HOME
Coppin State holds a 2-4 record when playing at home in the PEC Arena this season. The Eagles downed Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill in back-to-back games in November. But when on to suffer losses against Towson, Hampton, Norfolk State, and Eastern Michigan. In 2014-15, the Eagles went 4-7 at home with four consecutive losses to end the regular season.

AGAINST SCHOOLS FROM NORTH CAROLINA
This will be the first time this season that Coppin State has played a team from the state of North Carolina. In 2014-15, the Eagles played both MEAC schools from North Carolina and went 1-2. They defeated NC A&T but fell twice to NC Central.
