GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
Shane Green was an individual standout for the Coppin State men's track and field program during the 76th running of the Florida Relays last weekend at Percy Beard Track. He earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) qualifying standard marks in the triple and long jumps.
Competing against a loaded field of some of the best jumpers in the nation, Green held his own by finishing 10th in the triple jump (49 feet, 10 inches/15.19 meters) and 12th in the long jump (23-2.50/7.07). Green has the second best triple jump mark in the MEAC.
He completed a busy weekend by running as a member of Coppin State's 4 x 100-meter relay team with Jeremy Dorsey,
Kester Chase and
Haysean Cowie-Clarke. They completed their race in 41.06 seconds.
Also earning a MEAC qualifying mark in Florida was
Michael James in the 800-meter run (1:51.54), which is the fourth fastest mark in the conference so far. James was part of the Eagles' 4 x 400-meter relay team that included
Fabian Hayles,
Alaric Coker and
Eric Thomas. The quartet crossed the finish line in 3:13.95.
The Eagles' 4 x 200-meter relay team of Chase, Dorsey, Thomas and
Rohan Stewart ran 1:26.78.
"I see our potential even though the results don't show that," Coppin State head coach
Carl Hicks said. "We had goals of running faster in each of our relays. We'll make a few adjustments and be ready for the Penn Relays in a few weeks. Shane had a solid showing for us this weekend."
Coppin State returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Hampton University Relays.
