RICHMOND, Va. – In his collegiate outdoor debut, Coppin State's
Elijah Williams won the 110m hurdles and high jump at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond at Robins Stadium on Friday.
A freshman from Smyrna, Del., Williams carried the momentum from medaling in three events at the MEAC Indoor Championships to winning the 110m hurdles in 14.46 despite a slight headwind. His time is the third-fastest in the event in CSU history. Later in the afternoon, he cleared 2.00m (6-6.75) to win the event in the fourth-best mark in school history. Williams' classmate
Sean Williams finished second to him in high jump, clearing 1.95m (6-4.75) while
Jaidyn Brown leaped 1.85m (6-0.75).
Timothy Frederick doubled up in the 100m and 400m dash events, taking second in the 400m (48.10) while clocking a 10.95 in the 100m to finish fifth overall. Also earning a silver medal was
Alexander Dobson-Honablue in the triple jump with a mark of 14.13m (46-4.25).
To close out the day, the quartet of
Damien Howard,
Asa Francis,
Cole Schlotterbeck and
Elijah Hicks finished second in the 4x400m Relay in 3:19.80. Howard and Schlotterbeck also competed in the 400m dash and ran 48.91 and 49.34, respectively.
Etiam Torgbenu (48.61) and
Solomon Hammond (48.98) also ran in the 400m dash as well.
Francis was the lone Eagle to run in the 1,500m where he just missed a PR in 4:04.81. Hicks was one of a trio of runners in the 800m where he finished in 2:01.56, sandwiched between
Humed Nura's 1:59.12 and a 2:04.40 by
Rashawn Harris.
Elsewhere, in field events,
Keyon Jackson took fifth in the triple jump in 13.68m (44-10.75) while
Mandel Edelin traveled 6.10m (20-0.25) in the long jump.
Coppin will compete at the Raleigh Relays on March 26-28 on the campus of North Carolina State at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
