Prior to Coppin State: Hayles was a 6-time All-American at Colby Community (Kansas) College. He finished third in the 600-meters at the 2014 Indoor Junior College nationals in New York. Hayles was a three-time All-American in the 4 x 800-meter relay and was part of a second place distance medley-relay team at nationals. He was a four-time Jayhawk all-conference second time. He is the son of Elizabeth Haslam and Fabian Hayles, Sr.
