PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State junior Deandra Daniel continues to have a blast re-writing the Coppin State women's track and field indoor record books. It seems only fitting that in a city named for royalty that the reigning four-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) high jump empress had a performance to cherish.

Daniel cleared a career-best 1.84 meters in the high jump to highlight the Eagles' performance at the Nelson Townsend Invitational Saturday afternoon at the William P. Hytche Fieldhouse. In adding to her school standard indoor mark, Daniel soared 6 feet, .5 inches to easily win the event.

Her mark of 1.84 is the third-best clearance nationally in the high jump. It was the second time this season, Daniel has cleared at least six feet. She sailed 1.83 meters on Jan. 19 at Winston-Salem. Daniel has been consistently near six feet all indoor season while winning every high jump event she has competed in.

"She's having a phenomenal season," Coppin State head women's track and field coach Alecia Shields-Gadson said. "She's put in the hard work and the rewards are now coming to fruition. She is peaking at the right time and still has some big jumps left in those long legs."

Also earning a MEAC qualifying standard was freshman Natasha Patterson, who soared a personal best 11.62 meters (38-1.5) in placing second in the triple jump.

Now Daniel turns her attention to next weekend's MEAC championship meet in which she defend her high jump crown on Friday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. The MEAC championships commence Thursday and conclude Saturday at the Prince George's County Learning and Recreation Center in Landover.
