Box Score BALTIMORE – Coppin State dropped a 77-71 decision to University of Akron Wednesday night at the James A. Rhodes Arena. It was the Eagles third consecutive loss to the Zips.
The Eagles fought back from an early 13-point deficit and outscored the Zips 45-42 in the second half.
Coppin State had career performances from a trio of Eagle guards.
Junior
Keith Shivers scorched the Zips for 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, both career highs. Shivers has been on a tear as he is averaging 14.6 points per game in the Eagles last three contests.
Trevon Seymore set career highs in points, rebounds and minutes played. Seymore scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out a team high three assists and added one block in a game high 37 minutes.
The Eagles reclaimed their first lead of the game since the 17:26 mark of the first half following an alley-oop from Seymore to
Keith Shivers with 11:34 to play. The dunk by Shivers was the end result of an 11-6 run by Coppin State.
Junior
James Sylvester poured in 18 points, on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, in 26 minutes. He added six rebounds as he scored in double figures for the fourth time this season.
Terry Harris Jr., recorded his fifth double double of the season. Harris Jr., scored 12 points and collected 11 boards for the Eagles. He has led the Eagles in rebounding in every game so far this season.
Pat Forsythe led the Zips with 20 points and eight rebounds. Isaiah Johnson added a double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The game featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, including five in the closing minutes of the second half.
Coppin State will return home for its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home opener against the Hampton Pirates on Saturday afternoon. It will be Health and Wellness Day at PEC Arena.
