Cindy Okpegbue had 11 kills and posted a .375 hitting percentage leading Coppin State to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Howard on Sunday securing the second seed in the upcoming MEAC Tournament for the Eagles.
It's been another record-breaking season for Coppin State under the direction of second-year head coach
Ashley Preston. The Eagles set school records for overall victories, conference victories, consecutive victories and consecutive home victories.
Coppin State concludes the regular season with an overall record of 13-15 and a MEAC mark of 8-4. Howard wraps up the regular season with a 20-10 record and an 8-4 conference record. The Eagles earned the No. 2 seed from the Northern Division for the MEAC Tournament by virutue of beating top-seeded Hampton, while the Bison lost both matches to Hampton.
Coppin State also received nine kills from
Kandace Thomas and nine kills and three blocks from
Kendra Ireigbe. The Eagles placed three players in double figures in digs led by
Gabrielle Otero who had 17.Nicole Malave added 14 digs and
Ariel Richard had 11 digs.
Chelsee Sauni, who already broke the Coppin State single-season assist record, added 36 more assists to her total.
Dominique Cleggett had nine kills to lead Howard, while Katherine Broussard had seven kills and eight digs.
Coppin State will open MEAC Tournament on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m. against the No. 3 seed from the Southern Division. The tournament will be held in the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State.
