Coco Figueroa Named MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Coco Figueroa has been named the MEAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.  This is the first time this season that Figueroa has received the award and the eighth time of her career.
 
A senior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Figueroa earned Kristen Dickmann Invitational All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 5.14 digs per set to go with 12 assists and five aces in three matches.
 
Figueroa opened the weekend with 21 digs, three assists and a pair of aces at Navy before tallying a season-high 29 digs with five assists and an ace vs. Penn the following day.  Later that night, Figueroa recorded another 22 digs with four assists and two aces against Stony Brook.
 
Through six matches this season, Figueroa leads the MEAC with 119 digs and 4.41 digs/set to go with 24 assists (0.89/set) and seven aces.  She sits ninth nationally in total digs and 22nd in digs per set. Figueroa ranks third in CSU history with 1,337 digs and sixth with 118 aces.
 
The Eagles return to action on September 10-12 at the Zips Invitational which is co-hosted by Akron and Cleveland State.  Coppin opens the Classic against Valparaiso on Thursday, followed by Akron on Saturday and Cleveland State on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday's matches will air live on ESPN+.
