ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coppin State's volleyball team set a school-record for blocks in a match but dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions to Penn (23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 27-29, 16-14) and Stony Brook (26-24, 26-28, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12) on Saturday to close out Navy's Kristen Dickmann Invitational.

The Eagles were dominant at the end, recording 18 blocks to break the previous school-record of 17 set against Portland on September 16, 2023, at the UNLV Rebel Challenge. It also broke the previous five-set mark of 14.
 
Kayden Cupid and Kendall Minta led the historic defensive performance with nine and eight blocks, respectively. Deviana Walker added five blocks, followed by Eva Rovello with four and Cherisse Atilano with three. Ivanna Luna and Nia Curry also got into the action defensively with solo blocks.
 
Curry was the standout on the offensive end for Coppin, tallying 17 kills on .333 hitting to go with seven digs.  Atilano was also in double figures with 15 kills and six digs while Minta hit an impressive .409 on 11 kills.
 
Cupid followed up with eight kills and Rovello chipped in with four kills while quarterbacking the offense to a .183 hitting percentage with 46 assists and five digs.
 
In the backrow, Coco Figueroa led the way with a match-high 29 digs.  Andrea Cintron added ten digs to go with a pair of aces and Aya Rawlins served a pair of aces as well.
 
The Quakers narrowly outhit Coppin by .001, took advantage of 23 CSU errors in serve-receive and held a 74-57 edge in digs.

Kendall Minta and Rori Gray led the Eagles with 11 kills apiece while Cherisse Atilano, Nia Curry and Deviana Walker added eight kills apiece in the loss. Minta just missed out on a double-double with nine blocks, followed by Walker with three.
 
Gray's 11 kills,  on a team-high .381 percentage, matched her career-high that she set back as a freshman at Louisiana Tech against Cal State Fullerton.
 
Outside of Minta and Gray in the middle, the rest of the Eagles hit just .020 as Coppin hit just .087 for the match compared to Stony Brook's .123.
 
Eva Rovello posted a double-double with 44 assists and 11 digs.  Coco Figueroa recorded a team-high 22 digs while Atilano and Curry both totaled career-highs in digs with 19 and 14, respectively.  Atilano also had three aces while Figueroa was credited with a pair.
 
Up Next: Coppin faces another stiff test next weekend when its travels West for the Zips Invitational, co-hosted by Akron and Cleveland State on September 10-12. The Eagles open with Valparaiso on Thursday night in Akron, followed by the host Zips on Friday.  On Saturday, Coppin will play at Cleveland State with both matches against the co-hosts airing on ESPN+.
