Jahvari Josiah, who reached double figures in scoring. Fripp scored a team-high 16 points for the Eagles and Josiah added 11 points.
Taariq Cephas added nine points and a team-high six rebounds for the Eagles. Both teams combined to make 26 3-pointers. The Eagles made many of their 12 early in the game. while Oregon was hot throughout from beyond the arc. Fripp and Cephas combined for half of Coppin State's 3-pointers.
Coppin State on Fire EarlyCoppin State swooshed to an 11-2 lead less than four minutes into the game against Oregon following 3-pointers from Brickhouse, Cephas and Fripp. By the first media timeout, Coppin State had 19 points, drained five 3-pointers while shooting a torrid 70 percent. The Eagles led 24-20 with 12:24 remaining in the opening half. The Eagles led the Ducks for the first 7:38 of the game.
Cephas Moving UpTaariq Cephas has 302 career assists, which is eighth-time all-time in men's basketball history. He needs two assists to move past Will Crandle (1987 & 1988) and into seventh place on the Eagles all-time list.
A Quick Look At IllinoisThe Fighting Illini opened their season with an 80-71 victory over Georgia Southern Friday night. The win for Illinois was its 30th straight non-conference victory at State Farm Center - a streak that ranks sixth nationally - and extended its home court winning streak in regular-season non-conference games to 41 in a row. Rayvonte Rice (24 points), Aaron Cosby (16), Malcolm Hill (11) and Ahmad Starks (10) reached double figures for Illinois.
