Summary

Biography

2015 (Junior): He appeared in 19 games and earned his first Coppin State victory over Delaware State on April 18 by striking out three batters over 1.1 innings. Estrada finished with 27 strikeouts over 32 innings. He had four appearances in which he struck out at least three batters. He struck out a career best four batters in 2.2 innings against Maryland Eastern Shore on March 16. Against Delaware State on March 21, Estrada struck out the side with the bases loaded and no outs.

Personal: Estrada was stellar in his freshman season at Monroe as he was the Mustangs most reliable arm out of the bullpen. He made 14 appearances during the season (second most on the team), pitching 32 innings in which he posted a team best 1.13 earned run average.

Throughout the first half of the season, Estrada was nearly unhittable as he went his first15.1 innings without giving up a run (Monroe's longest scoreless innings streak of the season). He spent time pitching for the Yorkton Cardinals of the WMBL where he was the leader in saves and had the lowest batting average against.

“Chris will be a solid big right arm coming out of the bullpen late in games for us,” Reed said. “With his high velocity fastball and movement I anticipate him giving us a great shot at closing out games when we hand him the ball with the lead. Chris joins a great class of arms we have been fortunate to add to our 2015 spring roster.”

Following Tommy John surgery, Estrada’s velocity returned during his second season at Monroe College. He was a co-captain and compiled a 0-3 record with a 4.13 ERA. He had 16 strikeouts in 24 innings.

Estrada has enjoyed a decorated career thus far where he was Freshman of the Year at Martin Van Buren High School after striking out 99 batters. He was named to the New York Daily News and New York Post’s All-City first team and All Queens first team following his senior season.
