BALTIMORE – Coppin State volleyball head coach
Tim Walsh has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Top 25 Selection Committee, the organization announced.
Walsh will join a group of AVCA member coaches from across the country responsible for evaluating teams and voting on the AVCA Division I Women's Volleyball Top 25 throughout the season. The AVCA notes that its poll committees represent coaches from each NCAA Division I conference and analyze results each week before voting on the nation's top teams.
The appointment adds another national distinction to Walsh's growing list of accolades during his tenure at Coppin State. Entering his 10th season at the helm in 2026, Walsh is the winningest coach in program history with a 145-125 overall record, including an impressive 85-32 mark in MEAC play.
Under Walsh, the Eagles have captured two MEAC Tournament titles, four MEAC regular-season championships and made two NCAA Tournament appearances. He has also been named MEAC Coach of the Year four times, earning the honor in 2020-21, 2022, 2023 and 2025.
During his nine seasons in West Baltimore, Walsh has helped transform Coppin State into one of the MEAC's premier volleyball programs. His teams have produced 40 All-Conference selections, 13 MEAC major award winners and 11 All-Rookie Team honorees, while the program has earned its first AVCA All-American and All-Region selections.
Walsh guided Coppin State to one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2025, leading the Eagles to a 23-12 overall record and a 13-1 conference mark to claim the MEAC regular-season championship. Coppin State went on to capture the MEAC Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
In 2024, Coppin advanced to the MEAC Semifinal before falling to the eventual Tournament champion. It was the sixth-straight season that the Eagles reached the Semifinals after doing so just twice before he arrived in the Charm City.
The Eagles' 2023 campaign marked another milestone under Walsh, as Coppin State posted a program-record 27 wins, went 13-1 in MEAC play and captured its first MEAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Walsh was named the ECAC Division I Volleyball Coach of the Year following the historic season while
TaKenya Stafford won her first of two Tournament Most Outstanding Performer awards.
In 2022, which was Coppin's best in school-history at the time, the Eagles won a school-record 23 overall matches, including a program-best 12-2 mark in the MEAC en route to a Regular Season Championship. Also setting records in kills, aces and digs, the Eagles advanced to the MEAC Championship Game and earned their first-ever postseason bid, falling to ACC member Wake Forest in five sets in the NIVC.
Walsh arrived on campus just before the start of the 2017 season and guided the Eagles to four victories in conference play. Coppin tripled its win total and made the MEAC Tournament the following season, with his first-ever recruiting class featuring 11 freshmen and the youngest team in the Nation.
CSU continued to improve in 2019 and finished the year at 13-18 overall along with a school-record eight victories in MEAC play. Advancing to the MEAC Semifinals with an opening round victory over North Carolina Central, the Eagles placed a league-high five players on All-MEAC teams.
During the 2020 season, which was moved to the 2021 Spring Semester due to CoVID-19, Walsh led the Eagles to their first-ever winning season and Northern Division Championship due to a program-record ten-match winning streak and nine conference victories. Before falling in just their second trip to the MEAC Championship match, the Eagles placed a league-high five players on All-Conference Teams and
Ashley Roman was Coppin's first-ever AVCA All-Region selection.
In 2021, the Eagles recorded its second-straight winning season with a school-record 16 victories and nine-conference wins. Coppin advanced to the MEAC Semifinals and produced several firsts which included a win over George Washington and its first-ever All-American in
Miajavon Coleman.
