NORFOLK, Va. – Gifty Oku finished second in the 400m dash and scored in three other events to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the MEAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Norfolk State over the weekend. The Eagles finished eighth in the team standings with 20 total points.
Oku clocked a 55.18 in the 400m dash to finish second in the event with teammate
Danielle Wooten also scoring with a time of 56.62, good for seventh overall. Oku also finished seventh in the 200m dash in 24.39 and helped the 4x100m Relay (45.83) and 4x400m Relays (4:07.13) to fourth and seventh place finishes. Wooten,
Kyah La Fortune and
Benidicta Kwartemaa also ran legs on both relays.
Kwartemaa also picked up a point in the 100m dash in 11.92 after running a 11.69 in the prelims. She also finished the 200m in 24.57, just ahead of La Fortune in 25.17.
Elsewhere on the track,
Karima Davenport-White led a trio of Eagles in the 100m hurdles in 15.25, followed by
Ariell Thomas (15.43) and
Paula Orusede (16.46).
Chase Cineas covered the 400m dash in 1:01.22.
A personal-best throw of 11.08m (36-4.25) by
Raniya Perry in the shot-put highlighted Coppin's field event performances. She also threw the discus 28.04m (92-0).
Blair Griffith doubled up in the shot put (9.85m / 32-3.75) and hammer throw (31.48m / 103-3).
In the long jump,
Zeana Bain led the way with a leap of 5.18m (17-0), followed by
Indya Norman in 5.10m (16-8.75).
Dream Wilson also threw the shot put 7.09m (23-3.25).
