FAIRFAX, Va. – Coppin State's 4x100m and 4x400m Relays, as well as
Alexander Dobson-Honablue won gold in their respective events over the weekend at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational at George Mason University.
The 4x100m Relay team of
Cole Schlotterbeck, Solomon Hammond, Timothy Frederick and
Christopher Adekoya clocked a blistering time of 39.76, which ranks 27
th nationally and leads the MEAC. It is also the fifth-fastest time in CSU history.
To close out the meet, the quartet of
Damien Howard, Frederick, Etiam Torgbenu and
Philip Gray ran the 4x400m Relay in 3:12.50 to edge out Morgan State by less than a second. Their time ranks third in the MEAC this season.
Recording a personal record, Honablue leaped 14.80m (48' 6.75") in the triple jump to win the event. This is the third-farthest mark in the MEAC this season and the third-best in CSU history. Honablue also threw the javelin 49.20m (161' 5").
Elijah Williams, Mandel Edelin and Schlotterbeck also doubled up in open events. Williams cleared 1.95m (6'4.75") in the high jump while leaping 6.88m (22' 7") in the long jump to lead the team in both events. Edelin competed in both horizontal jumps, covering 6.13m (20' 1.5") in the long jump and 12.91m (42' 4.25") in the triple jump. Schlotterbeck led the team in the 200m (21.35) while clocking a 50.36 in the 400m.
Hammond led a large group of Eagles in the 400m in 48.35, followed closely by
Godspower Iloba (48.37), Howard (48.46) and Gray (48.66). Frederick was edged up in the 200m in 21.38) while Torgbenu led a trio in the 800m in (1:52.27), just ahead of
Elijah Hicks (1:55.71) and
Rashawn Harris (2:02.18).
Asa Francis eclipsed the 4-minute mark in the 1,500m in 3:59.56, followed closely by
Humed Nura in 4:00.73.
Also, competing was
Jaidyn Brown, who cleared 1.85m (6' 0.75") in the high jump.
The Eagles return to the track on April 8-11 at the Duke Invitational while select members will also run at the Bison Classic on Saturday.
