Camaren Sparrow Named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Camaren Sparrow has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday morning.  This is the first weekly award for Sparrow this season.
 
A junior from Baltimore, Md., Sparrow averaged 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and a block to go with 7.5 points and 2.5 assists to lead the Eagles to a pair of conference wins last week. Sparrow opened the week with six points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals in a win at South Carolina State.  On Saturday, Sparrow tallied nine points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in an overtime victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
For the season, Sparrow is averaging 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds to go with 22 assists, 14 steals and a team-high 12 blocks.
 
Sparrow has led the Eagles to four-straight victories, their longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season.  Coppin returns to action on Saturday, February 28 when it hosts Norfolk State at 4:30 pm on ESPN+.
