NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Nelson Lamizana has been named the MEAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly honor that Lamizana has received in his career.
A freshman from West Chester, Pa., Lamizana put up a team-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, along with a 3-pointer in Coppin's loss at Liberty last weekend. Lamizana also added three rebounds and two steals against the Flames just days after grabbing three rebounds and an assist at West Virginia.
Lamizana is averaging 6.8 points and 3.0 rebounds to go with four steals and two blocks in five career games. He has recorded double digits in three of those games against Rider, Loyola Maryland and Liberty.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, December 9 at Saint Joseph's with tipoff starting at 7:00 pm on ESPN+.
