Baseball’s NEC Opening Series vs. Merrimack Altered Due to Inclement Weather

HANOVER, Md. – Due to inclement weather expected in the area this weekend, Coppin State baseball's NEC opening series against Merrimack has been altered.  A doubleheader will now be played on Friday, March 8, starting at 12 pm, followed by a 12 pm single game on Sunday, March 10 at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Coppin is 1-5 on the season, winning its most recent game against Saint Peter's in walkoff fashion, 13-12 on February 25.  Midweek games against George Washington (Feb. 28) and at Navy (Mar. 6) were both postponed.
 
Bryce Thompson leads the Eagles with a .389 average while Kai Holm (.318) and Brody Black (.313) are also hitting over .300. Black has accumulated a .542 on-base percentage, drawing five walks and three HBPs. Holm has five RBI, followed by Damon Gaither (.292, two home runs) with four and five others with three. Daniel Moore is just behind Gaither with a .286 average and a pair of doubles and Chris Marte has a team-high three extra-base hits with two doubles and a homer. Despite hitting just .182, Anthony Divittorio has drawn eight walks, posting a team-high .571 on-base percentage.
 
Alek Elges has led the pitching staff thus far with a 6.75 ERA in 9.1 innings, striking out eight batters which is second to Jackson Montgomery with nine punchouts. Nico Felber boasts a 7.11 earned run average, followed by Reagan Rivera (1-0, 4 app.) with a 9.45 ERA. Kaden Straily has appeared in three games with one start while Michael Matthews, Jaedin Hurd and John Neeld have made two relief appearances apiece.
