NAGOYA, Japan – Former Coppin State pitcher
Tim Ruffino will represent Team USA at the Fifth Annual World Baseball Tournament for the Physically Disabled at Vantelin Dome Nagoya on September 8-10. The United States will take on teams from Japan, Puerto Rico, Taiwan and South Korea.
Ruffino and Team USA will open the tournament against Taiwan at 9:00 pm on Friday, September 8 before taking on Puerto Rico (12:20 am) and South Korea (8:00 pm) on Saturday. On Sunday, the United States will play Japan at 1:00 am. All times are Eastern.
Ruffino, who was born with amniotic band syndrome, which is a congenital birth defect that caused severe underdevelopment of his right hand, made 46 appearances with 14 starts on the mound for the Eagles from 2020-23. Ruffino recorded a 7-9 record with a pair of saves and struck out 102 batters in 118.0 innings while accumulating a 5.64 earned run average.
A native of Bogalusa, La., Ruffino was a member of Coppin's 2022 MEAC Championship Team that advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA Regional. Over his four seasons, the Eagles won 58 games which included a Covid-shortened 2020 season.
