Women's Track Recognized by USTFCCCA for Academics

Women’s Track & Field; Trio of Eagles Recognized for Academic Success

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coppin State's women's track & field program was named an All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this month.  Additionally, Latifa Ali, Kimani Alphonse and Shenelle Tomlinson were recognized as All-Academic Athletes.
 
For teams to be eligible, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes must be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Individuals must record at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have finished in the top 96 in any event during the indoor season or be ranked in the top 48 in their Region during the outdoor season.
 
Ali was the 2023 MEAC Indoor Champion in the 200m dash (23.61) and won the 400m dash (52.99) at the conference outdoor championship.  A native of Kumasi, Ghana, Ali qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries in the 400m dash and finished 17th overall.
 
Alphonse advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries in the 400m dash after taking second at the MEAC Championships in a personal-record 53.70. She also took second in the event during the conference indoor season.
 
Tomlinson finished 3rd in the MEAC in the 400m dash in both the indoor and outdoor season and ranked among the Nation's best in the 400m dash during the indoor season (53.94).
