JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coppin State's
Latifa Ali advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries in the 400m dash with her performance on Thursday night, hosted by University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium.
A junior from Kumasi, Ghana, Ali clocked a 53.52 to finish fifth in her heat to qualify for the next round. Ali won the MEAC Championship with a season-best time of 52.99 after running 53.72 in the prelims. She owns a personal record outdoors of 52.78.

Kimani Alphonse finished in 55.21, placing 42
nd overall after being seeded 48
th going into the East Prelims.

James Bell will compete in the high jump at 2:30 pm which can be viewed live on ESPN+
Saturday's quarterfinals of the 400m dash can be watched on ESPN+ at 6:50 pm. Ali will be in heat one with the top three finishers in each heat automatically qualifying for the National Championships. The next three fastest times will also advance.
