Jordan Hamberg Named Semifinalist for John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

LUBBOCK, Texas – Coppin State's Jordan Hamberg has been named one of 12 semifinals for the 2023 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, it was announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Wednesday afternoon.  This is the second-straight season that Hamberg has been a semifinalist after being one of five finalists last season.
 
The five finalists for the award will be announced on May 30. Of the 12 semifinalists, eight, including Hamberg have been named the Olerud Award Player of the Week during the regular season.
 
"The players leading the chase for the 2023 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award are putting up some incredible numbers, both at the plate and on the mound," said Olerud Award co-chairman George Watson. "Some of the names you know, as they have garnered the spotlight at times throughout the season. But others are having fantastic years and making their own case to be included as one of the nation's best players. With just a few weeks left in the season, this will be an interesting race to follow to see who can keep up the pace to the end."
 
Hamberg is once again pacing the Eagles in hitting,. Leading the team in batting average (.307), OPS (1.000), hits (46), triples (3), home runs (7), extra-base hits (20), total bases (83), slugging (.553) and on-base percentage (.447) while also ranking second in walks (32) and stolen bases (12). On the mound, Hamberg is 3-4 with a 5.80 earned run average, striking out 58 batters in 45.0 innings while holding opponents to a .238 batting average.
 
A native of South Plainfield, N.J., already ranks fourth in CSU history with 15 home runs while ranking tenth with a .338 career batting average.  He also ranks sixth in on-base percentage (.456) and eighth in slugging percentage (.559). Hamberg's ten career victories is seventh all-time at Coppin and he also ranks fourth in strikeouts (173) while sitting just outside the top ten in innings pitched (135.2).
 
The Eagles close out the regular season on May 18-20 when they host Norfolk State in a three-game series.  Thursday's game is scheduled for 3:00 pm, followed by a 1 pm start on Friday, and 12 pm for Senior Day Saturday.
