NORFOLK, Va. – Latifa Ali easily won the 400m dash and led the 4x400m Relay to a win as Coppin State's women's track & field team competed at the NSU Invitational on Saturday.
Recording a 54.73 in the 400m dash, Ali won the event by almost a second and a half with teammate
Shenelle Tomlinson taking third in 56.21. The duo also ran the first and third legs of the 4x400m Relay, along with
Kimani Alphonse and
Salomay Agyei, that cruised to gold in 3:45.79.
Ali and Alphonse also made up the last two legs of the 4x100m Relay, following
Gifty Oku and
Halutie Hor, who took second in 45.91.
Hor and Oku also took second and fourth, respectively, in the 100m dash in times of 11.61 and 11.79.
Recording second-place finishes were
Destinee Mcloud in the 400m hurdles (1:03.32) and
Jahmei Wyatt in the 1,500m Run (4:52.42). Alphonse also took fourth in the 800m Run (2:19.00) while
Erin Palmer finished fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.87). Palmer also leaped 10.00m (32' 9.75") in the triple jump.
Kaelyn Woodrum led a trio of Eagles in the 200m dash with a time of 25.71, followed by Mcloud in 25.95 and
Angel Davis in 26.63. Woodrum had a busy day, also competing in the 400m hurdles (1:09.43), high jump (1.47m | 4' 9.75") and javelin (65' 1.0"). Davis also clocked a 1:08.71 in the 400m hurdles.
Saidai Stuteley doubled up in the 800m (2:34.21) and 1,500m Run (5:32.76) events while
Briana Benton finished the 400m dash in 59.65.
Raniya Perry also threw the shot put 31' 3.75."
Coppin returns to the track on Saturday, April 22 at the Morgan State Legacy.
