Sam Sessoms was named a First Team BOXTOROW All-American, it was announced by the organization on Thursday morning. This is the third-straight season that the Eagles have had at least one player selected to the BOXTOROW All-America Team.
A fifth-year senior guard from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms was a First Team All-MEAC selection and Second Team NABC All-District recipient after leading the league in scoring (20.5) while ranking second in steals (2.0) and third in assists (5.0). Sessoms was the only player in the Nation to average at least 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals while shooting over 50 percent from the floor.
Sessoms recorded 17 games with at least 20 points, including a season-high 37 points against eventual MEAC Champion Howard on February 18 where he hit a CSU record 16-of-25 from the floor. He also had 35 points on 15-of-22 shooting, including the game-winner at Loyola Maryland on December 3. Sessoms became the first Eagles player in eight years to record ten assists in a game, a feat he accomplished at both Georgetown on November 8 and Tennessee Tech nine days later.
In the regular season finale at Morgan State on March 2, Sessoms became just the 13
th player in the last 30 years to record 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals in their career. He completed his eligibility with 2,362 career points, 534 rebounds, 552 assists and 202 steals while hitting 240 3-pointers in 149 games. Sessoms ranks seventh among active NCAA Division I players in points and fifth in field goals made (888). He is one of just ten active players with 2,000 points and 500 assists in their career.
Eleven different HBCU's are represented on this year's BOXTOROW All-America teams. BOXTOROW has administered the All-America Teams since 2009.
