Men’s Hoops’ Sam Sessoms Selected to Play in HBCU All-Star Game During Final Four Weekend

ATLANTA, Ga. – Coppin State's Sam Sessoms has been selected to play in the HBCU All-Star Game on April 2, 2023 at Texas Southern University's H&PE Arena during Final Four Weekend, it was announced on Monday morning. The second-ever HBCU All-Star Game will air live on the CBS Television Network and be available to stream on Paramount+.
 
A fifth-year senior guard  from Philadelphia, Pa., Sessoms was a First Team All-MEAC selection after leading the league in scoring (20.5) while ranking second in steals (2.0) and third in assists (5.0). Sessoms was the only player in the Nation to average at least 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals while shooting over 50 percent from the floor.
 
Sessoms recorded 17 games with at least 20 points, including a season-high 37 points against eventual MEAC Champion Howard on February 18 where he hit a CSU record 16-of-25 from the floor. He also had 35 points on 15-of-22 shooting, including the game-winner at Loyola Maryland on December 3. Sessoms became the first Eagles player in eight years to record ten assists in a game, a feat he accomplished at both Georgetown on November 8 and Tennessee Tech nine days later.
 
In the regular season finale at Morgan State on March 2, Sessoms became just the 13th player in the last 30 years to record 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals in their career.  He completed his eligibility with 2,362 career points, 534 rebounds, 552 assists and 202 steals while hitting 240 3-pointers in 149 games. Sessoms ranks seventh among active NCAA Division I players in points and fifth in field goals made (888). He is one of just ten active players with 2,000 points and 500 assists in their career.
 
Sessoms will join Norfolk State's Joe Bryant and Kris Bankston, Isaiah Burke of Morgan State, North Carolina Central's Brendan Medley-Bacon, Nathaniel Pollard of Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T's Demetric Horton, Marquis Godwin of Hampton, Tennessee State's Jr. Clay, Gregg Boyd of Tuskegee, Morehouse's Kerry Richardson and Eleik Bowles on Savannah State on Team Dr. Dick Barnett.

They will take on Team Willis Reed which features 12 players from the SWAC and CIAA.
